Golf Carts...

Would Gibson City be open to the idea of a gold cart ordinance? Many other central Illinois towns have passed such ordinances. Most of these towns have certain requirements of the golf carts, such as headlights, turn signals and slow moving vehicle signs. Some cities have an annual permit with a fee in order to be "legal", and some require drivers to be a certain age. With our golf course, I can see there would be an interest, as well as it could be a source of income for the city, as well as letting Gibson City be a little greener.

Great question and comments. We have had many citizens in Gibson City ask the same question.

We are already in the process of gathering information from other communities that have passed ordinances concerning the use of golf carts on city streets. I intend to place it on the city council agenda for discussion and public input and comment in the next couple months.

I would support the use of golf carts on all or some city streets providing that the ordinance meets or exceeds all federal and state requirements and addresses any safety issues. I would also like the ordinance to address the use of other types of green and efficient transportation as well.
